Tulsa Oklahoman's for Human Rights Buys Permanent Home for Tulsa GLBT Community Center!

An Open Letter to the GLBT & Allied Community
Please Feel Free to Distribute Widely

A dream has come true and history is made! On October 31st, at 4:30 PM, documents were signed finalizing the purchase of our new home! Tulsa now has a permanent site for the Tulsa Gay, Lesbian, Bisexual & Transgender (GLBT) Community Center!
Laura Belmonte, recently elected President of Tulsa Oklahomans for Human Rights (TOHR), signed the documents with 13 commemorative pens. One pen will be for permanent display in the History Project room of the New Center. The remaining will be gifted to current and future donors in the $10,000 and above level.

TOHR's Pyramid Project Steering Committee has worked 5 years to bring the GLBT community to this historic place. At 18,000 square feet, we are now the second largest GLBT Community Center in the Midwest. The historic 2-story brick building, built in the 1930's with a 1-story annex of the 1960's, allows for expanded community programs, larger and more meeting areas for organizations and groups, 4,000 square feet of lease space and a large capacity special events center. Our home will serve as a permanent visible presence now and for generations to come.

The building is an anchor of the growing East Village and Living Arts District of downtown Tulsa. Sitting prominently at the corner of 4th & Kenosha, the permanent Tulsa GLBT Community Center is a gateway to the entire area. If you've not yet seen your new home, please drive by it. It is at 621 East 4th Street. That is 4 blocks West of 4th & Peoria and 3 doors West of Youth Services of Tulsa. Although not quite ready for move-in, a flag raising and house blessing ceremony is planned for Saturday, November 19th at 10:00 AM. We hope to see you there!

After improvements and renovations, the grand opening will be in the Spring of 2006. Most initial expenses are fire safety and ADA compliance items. Please remember, we are still raising the necessary funds to complete this historic move-in. Please visit the website to make a donation or pledge and help us SPRING into our new home for the Community.

Building a Home...Funding the Future

With your continued help, TOHR's Pyramid Project Committee will continue its goal of "Building a Home...Funding the Future".

Thank You,

Laura Belmonte, TOHR President

Sue Welch, Pyramid Project Chair

Greg Gatewood, Center Director

Pyramid Project Committee members: Paul Allen, Mark Bonney, Ann Eichenberger, Marc Frieden, David Hoot, John Madigan, Tim Williams, Michele Hoffman, Shelly Ledford, Catheryn Mason and Marcia Telukevich
